Misc. Debris

[mood |curiouscurious]

I'm thinking of shutting down the forums...people rarely post there, and it's just too big with not enough going on.

That said, I want to "reopen" the boards, only this time with a fresh Database, Fresh setup, and a new aproach. Rather than forums covering everything under the sun, I want to only have those forums people would be interested in posting in. That said, what would you like to see in a "new" MD? Is it even neccessary?

Feel free to ask questions here to, I'll try to answer as best I can. Chances are if I were to do this, I'd "archive" the old board, locking it & moving it to a new sub-directory..

Things I would probably visit: General Chat, Games, Books (could include comics, I'm not picky), and maybe a rant forum.

I would return to Misc Debris if it saw more action. I have been sorta back, though not much has been going on. But, if you don't feel the need, that's fine too. Don't stress over something you don't want to do anymore.

I agree about the action... Perhaps a more narrowed focus would help. there was definitely minimal traffic in the artistic debris forum, and while i love having a place for that kind of stuff, it was definitely slow.

maybe we should pimp the site more. you know, get more of our friends to join, go to other livejournal communities or other forums and post the website. i think we should try to advertise a little more. if we could get a banner i could put it in my sig in gaia... that would probably get a ton of people!

I think that'd be putting the cart before the horse. We have plently of users, and no posts, because there isn't a focus to direct said posts.

In other words, I dun bit off more than the forum can chew.

i was thinking just to bring in more diverse users. i'm not saying that all of us MDers are all the same, because that's definately not the case, but i mean diverse in interests and ideas and stuff.
i dunno, from what i've seen on that thread, there isn't a whole lot of debate about anything really. most of us seem to agree with each other's thoughts. it might be fun if we had a way of bringing in people with different ideas so that we can have more debates.
also, most of us are 18-23, right? given, there are a few of us who are much older or younger (i'm 14 for example) but maybe we should try to bring in a broader age group.
just an idea to spice things up a little bit in MD

Okay. I'll visit again, I promise.

That said, a fresh Database might be good.

OK, the one main thing I like MD for:

We have few users who all like to RP.

That means that the RP threads are a lot slower than those on Sluggy, and besides which, I feel a lot more comfortable with GMing/playing RP on smaller boards.

Oh, and I used to be mod so I could boss people about :)

I read every post in MD, but it's not much. I'm interested in Sci-Fi stuff (mostly Star Trek), Fantasy stuff, Computer stuff, and the corpses. Add in some fun with things like Calvinball and whatnot, and that'd be great for me.
